Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) Analysis

Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) is a measurement that assesses the number of eosinophils in a blood sample. Eosinophils are a type of white blood cell that play a key role in the body's immune response, particularly in combating parasitic infections and in allergic reactions. The AEC is an important diagnostic tool for identifying and monitoring various conditions, including allergies, asthma, parasitic infections, and certain autoimmune diseases.

AEC Reference Range:

  • Normal Range: 50 to 500 cells/µL (microliter) of blood.

Addressing abnormal AEC levels effectively requires a targeted approach to the root cause. In cases of eosinophilia, treatments might include using antihistamines or corticosteroids for allergies, anti-parasitic medications for infections, or specific therapies for autoimmune diseases and cancers. Consistent monitoring of AEC alongside a detailed assessment of symptoms and other blood markers is crucial for the accurate diagnosis and management of conditions impacting eosinophil counts. While eosinopenia typically does not necessitate specific treatment, observing changes in blood levels during recovery from stress or infection can provide insights.
