Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) Analysis

Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) Analysis measures the blood's capacity to bind iron with transferrin, the main protein that transports iron in the bloodstream. It essentially evaluates how much transferrin in the blood is not yet bound to iron and is available to bind more. This test is often used in conjunction with serum iron tests to diagnose various iron metabolism disorders.

Reference Range:

  • Normal Range: Between 240 to 450 micrograms per deciliter (mcg/dL).

Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) Analysis is vital for determining the body's ability to bind iron, helping diagnose and manage iron-related conditions effectively. Depending on the TIBC results, management may include iron supplementation for deficiencies or dietary iron reduction for overload. Regular monitoring of TIBC, along with serum iron and ferritin levels, is crucial for adjusting treatments and ensuring effective management of disorders.
