Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) Analysis

Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) Cholesterol Analysis is a blood test that measures the level of VLDL cholesterol in the blood. VLDL is one of the five major groups of lipoproteins (which include LDL and HDL) that enable fats and cholesterol to move within the bloodstream. VLDL cholesterol is considered especially important because it is a precursor to LDL cholesterol, commonly known as "bad" cholesterol. VLDL carries triglycerides, another type of fat, to tissues throughout the body and is converted in the bloodstream to LDL cholesterol.

Reference Range:

  • Normal Range: Between 5 and 40 mg/dL.

Managing Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol involves dietary changes to lower intake of sugars and saturated fats, increasing physical activity, and potentially using medications such as statins, fibrates, and niacin based on overall cardiovascular risk. Regular monitoring of VLDL levels through lipid profile tests is essential to track the effectiveness of these interventions in controlling cholesterol and triglyceride levels, thereby reducing the risk of atherosclerosis, and associated cardiovascular diseases.
